our chance is here - rough cut
This is part one of a haiku comprising 'Melanie's Theme' .
With Lori & Aggie's consummation being interrupted by the announcement the Nagas Rift has been found, young USAF Lieutenant Melanie Hinson realizes she will be called on by General Battle to lead a recon mission into the Rift itself.
Whereas moments before hope was in short supply, Melanie realizes she now personifies all the hope of the entire mission and the quarter of a million people at L5. The lyric poses the "chance" first as a question, then as a realization accompanied by much fear, then as an affirmation as Lt. Hinson realizes she is up to the challenge.
The track is placed here also because it's a wistful echo of the unconsummated love between Aggie & Rails. As their chance for sexual union is dashed by the klaxon in 'Serendpity', their hope to survive and get another chance rests with the young Air Force Lieutenant.
