comin' after you
As many of you have indicated you already see, the Amber Odyssey (Odycy for Tweeps) is a real-time road map of how we got here and what we have to do to get out.
It's not as facile & simple as 'shifting' or 'occupying'. This piece is dedicated to those who believe it is.
Yes, we have to undo much, and sure, it would be great if everybody shifted at once.
We know the Age Of Aquarius is coming. It would be great if everyone believed that.
Cycles as long as these take decades or centuries to evolve.
Change begins with the courageous & foolhardy. We don't think 'foolhardy' is a pejorative term.
The piece is, like most of the early stuff in the project, a deliberate mix of sequenced & programmed music, with real-time music overlaid. The union is often disorganized. It's often dissonant. It's designed to be both.
The synth 'lead' is a well-intentioned expression of our vision of the 99%. It's dysrhythmic, cutting & difficult for people who listen to EZ-Rock to 'get'.
Underneath is repetitive, rather uninteresting, sequenced, rhythmic, soporific trance. It's what you hear if you listen to the radio or music coming from the commercial music houses.
The pitch-bend, hopeless groan at the end of a few synth lead lines is how it feels when you know you're fighting a battle that cannot be won today. One of us was in a war like that once.
It killed his country.
The piece is too long because the war is just beginning.
Many of us here will die in this war. After the first flurry of exuberant revolutionary spirit comes political repression on a scale we have never seen before.
But you have to fight on anyway, even if you understand the words of Gandhi which precede "then you win".
A toast to you all, Hopeless Warriors and Valiant Fools, we are among you, with you, support you. We are you with different weapons. Like you, we have no choice but to soldier on.
- Chuck Oldman, Keera McKinney, Lizzy Tamblyn, Lani Osterman, Kat Currie, Camille Theriault & Leslie Mostrup.
