streetwalkin' beats walkin' - music - rough cut
Around here this is known as the "You Can't Hold Me Back Song". That's the voice pattern we used to model the percussive gargle synth sound. This piece is based on a pad Keera & I worked on together. We stuck some rasp & koto on top for cut & added in the Amber signature temple & other Tibetan Bells as well as an array of tablas.
It's kind of interesting to watch people who've never heard it before. At first there's a kind of dismissiveness as if it's elevator music. Turn your back on them for about five minutes and almost everybody is moving gently. My favorite part to play is the simplest, when it's basically Lizzy's drums, Keera's synth and my bass with the sequenced 'Snake' synth on top and the whalespout percussion in the back. If you play it long enough with just those elements, you can end up playing it for 47 minutes. We know because we did it.
Personnel:
Cammy Theriault: Rasp, Koto.
Lizzy Tamblyn: Drums, tablas, Arakeen Tabla, Korg padKontrol for Temple Bell, voice for "You Can't Hold Me Back".
Keera McKinney: Sound design, 'Snake' sequencer, 'Fat Butt Larry' riff courtesy of the Korg R3, Korg Triton, co-arranger.
Chuck Oldman: Sound design, composer, co-arranger, Music Man 5-string bass, Korg Kaossillator Pad, Korg padKontrol for "You Can't Hold Me Back" sequence & whalespout percussion.
See how there's no mention of an engineer? Lani Osterman pointed that out. It's not mixed, & Keera & I would like to try a slightly different arrangement with a lot more cut. Stay tuned.
