When the Voice Of God made his pronouncements, no speaker in the entire space station was off limits.
If you were asleep in Suzanne Devereaux's suite with your partner after a day full of gut-wrenching experiences, God did not care. God's Voice woke you up.
Aggie was sitting on the side of the bed, trying to decipher the news. "That gives us a day at the inside, a day and a half at the outside, right?"
Rails was already in orbit around the room, picking things up, storing them away. Both women felt like they'd been physically beaten. Lori's orbit was decidedly slower than usual.
"Yeah, we could be on dry land in 36 hours or so." Lori stopped moving and sat on the foot of the bed. "I guess I'm starting to realize I've grown attached to Leon & Suzanne both. I mean, he could be dead, she could be being violated, dead, anything for all we know." She wiped away a tear. "I guess I'm still very emotional after yesterday. How Leela got through that, I'll never know."
Aggie couldn't help but smile. "'Leela'?"
Lori managed a rueful smile. "She is kinda hot, huh?"
Aggie rolled sideways onto the bed and slinked her way on all fours down to Lori. She pulled the blonde woman's mouth up to hers and kissed her slowly, eating her mouth and lips until they were both breathless.
As Aggie's hand moved down Lori's tummy, Lori knew Aggie needed desperately to throw sex in the face of death. Aggie was usually more passive, but Lori knew there was a terrible pain in her lover. Seeing the flesh of a lover reduced to lumps of raw meat discounted one's own life, made the beauty of the acts seem meaningless, empty.
Aggie was angry. The sex was violent, sometimes painful for Lori, and she cried more than once during the next hour.
Then she saw the look on Aggie's face as she towered over her, sensed the collapse that was imminent, and Lori was the top again, a mother, a sister, a lover, a friend as Aggie sobbed and cried her eyes out.
When Aggie settled a bit, Lori asked the burning question. "Was she happy then?"
Aggie wiped away some remaining tears. "Rekha had never been with her sister before. I'd been with Rekha once, Leela a few times. Rekha wanted to be a neurologist. Leela was in her last year at Johns Hopkins. They were both really beautiful in and out of bed." Aggie managed a smile. "A knowledge of anatomy is a powerful tool. I learned a lot that night."
Lori managed an encouraging smile, "She was happy?"
Aggie laughed even with new tears. "Oh, yeah, she sure was that night!"
Lori felt no jealousy. "Then you made a difference to her."
Aggie's laughter finally triumphed. "Hell, yeah, I mean I set her up with her own sister!"
Lori's smile disappeared, and a wistful look came over her face. "Maybe ... maybe you go should be with Leela?"
"Leela has a very uptight husband, yanno the ones who give you one face when you're dating, then once the ceremony is over, they disappear, they change?"
Lori smiled. "I'll be okay." She repeated her previous suggestion. "Maybe you should go be with Leela."
Aggie said it quietly and simply. "I love you, Lori."
Lori smiled happily through tear-filled eyes. "I know. I love you too, Aggie."
Aggie was reading Lori's face and eyes. "You mean it, don't you, about Leela?"
"Yes, I do." Lori was still smiling. "Sex heals, just as love does. They're part of the same thing."
Aggie's smile was punctuated by a small outlet of breath. "Heh! Would I be rude if I suggested finding Leon & Suzanne has other motives?"
Lori flushed a little. "Leon's a little old for me, despite what we suspect."
Aggie grinned. "I wasn't thinking about Leon."
Lori's grin was sheepish now. "She is kinda hot, huh?"
Aggie hugged her. "That she is. Hell, you can invite me!"
Lori smiled widely as she pulled away to better see Aggie's eyes. "Yeah, see? Now we're highly motivated to stay alive."
Aggie sat back on her haunches. "Then I guess we'd better find them while we have the positive energy."
