Back in the middle of the 20th century, the Thames River in the United Kingdom reached a point where it could barely support life.
The government decided to attack the issue and clean it up.
The scientists & other experts said it would be 50 to 100 years before it would return to normal status.
It took Mother Nature ten.
The planet is self-cleaning once we stop doing the bad things we do and stand out of the way.
Our species is not self-cleaning. Unless we take steps to neutralize the threats of nationalism, religious zealotry, scientific zealotry, xenophobia and corporate-driven government, we're done as a species, just as the United States is done as a major power.
There are very good reasons why the Amber Odycy begins with the destruction of more than 99% of the human race.
It's a good start.
